It’s no longer quite news that host of Asempa FM, Kwadwo Asare Baffuor Acheampong popularly known as KABA died on Saturday, 18th November, 2017 at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital after a very short illness. However, we are bringing you some of the developing stories following the sad event which you may not have heard.
It was revealed that KABA reported for work last week but complained of ill heath. He was however, rushed to the hospital after his blood sugar level rose Saturday morning and was pronounced dead on arrival.
News of his shocking and sudden death was broke to his young wife, Valentina Ofori Afriyie, by a delegation from Multimedia Group, owners of Asempa FM, on Sunday. It was reported that she refused to accept the news as a reality, repeatedly stating that her husband is not dead but still alive – a very heartbreaking scenario.
Recall that KABA only got married to Valentina, a former Radio Gold presenter currently working with Accra-based Class FM, in June last year, and they welcomed their first child, a baby girl only seven moths ago. So sad!!!
Multimedia Group arranged a memorial service on behalf of their departed staff this morning, Monday, November 20 at the forecourt of Multimedia’s Radio building, which houses Joy FM, Adom FM, Asempa FM and Hitz FM.
Condolence messages have since been pouring into media platforms from various angles both within and outside the country, especially from KABA’s teeming listeners, expressing their shock and sadness over his sudden demise.
The President and his Vice, Nana Akufo-Addo and Mahamamudu Bawumia as well as former president John Mahama are among prominent Ghanains who have sent in their condolences on twitter and Facebook respectively. All have described the death as a shock.
Until his death, Kwadwo Asare Baffuor Acheampong (KABA) was the host of Asempa FM’s mid-afternoon show, ‘Ekosii Sen’. He initially started working with Multimedia Group in 2008 as a service provider at Asempa FM but was made a full staff in 2009.
He started hosting the controversial political show in 2010 and has since turned the programme into a favorite show for many Ghanaians through his unique style of presentation as well as his numerous anti-corruption campaigns.
Prior to joining Multimedia, Kaba worked with Top Radio from 2004 to 2008. He holds an Education degree from the University of Cape Coast, a certificate in Communication Studies from the Ghana Institute of Journalism and later enrolled at the University of Ghana to study Political Science.
During his time with Multimedia, Kwadwo Asare Baffuor Acheampong has also hosted Adom TV’s morning show ‘Badwam’ on Multi TV, on Asempa FM’s daily news bulletin ‘Asempa Today’ and weekly current affairs programme ‘Kukurantumi’. He recently won the Best Talk Show Host at the 2017 edition of the Radio and Television Personality (RTP) Awards held last month.
