Asante Kotoko coach Paa Kwesi Fabin is under pressure to quit after his side’s defeat in the Super Clash against Hearts of Oak on Sunday.
The cries for the dismissal of the under fire coach have grown louder from a cross section of the club’s fans.
Fabin had stated two match days earlier that he wasn’t a magician to change the fortunes of the club after just two months.
Kotoko have lost four out of 10 matches they have played in this season.
Things aren’t going too well. There are quite a number of players on the injury list but the fans insist that the sole head to carry the blame is the coach.
“I feel very very terrible, seriously with the kind of play that I saw from here, I don’t know what to do. I’m travelling back to Accra and I don’t know what to do. I wish I can change the jersey that I am wearing and get a new one. This is very shambolic, we don’t need this thing. There should be an improvement please. Through your medium please management should change the players for us and let’s get the best out of it because this is very sad. We travelled all the way from Accra to Kumasi and taking a defeat from a very poor side, Accra Hearts of Oak, which is very bad,” a fan poured his heart out.
“It was a nice game but I’m very disappointed because we created all the chances and we even we got a penalty which the referee denied us. The way the referees also handle matches is not good at all,” another fan shifted blame to the center referee.
“I’m very disappointed in the coach, Paa Kwesi Fabin. He didn’t know the kind of pattern he was playing. Whether its 4-4-2, 4-3-2-1, or 4-5-1. I didn’t know why he kept on playing Tuffuor Frimpong when we needed more goals. This Hearts of Oak team can’t beat us, just look at how they were playing and you just sit down idle and let them beat us 0-1 here. I don’t know how to describe this feeling because I came from Accra to watch the match and I’m just this evening and look at what I came to watch, it’s something else.”
‘’The coach is not good; his selection won’t help us so Doctor [Kwame Kyei] should be serious and tell us something because this coach won’t help us in anyway. His aim of winning us the African title can’t be done by this coach. If he really wants to go and win the African cup, then he is losing money and so he should go and get a better coach to help the team who can help his vision come to reality.”
The calls from the fans are loud but management says the coach will be maintained and that he has signed a long-term contract with the club.
“The future of Paa Kwesi Fabin does not depend on this match,” said Obed Acheampong, the Communications Manager of the club.
“We are still going to stick with him, we are still going keep him as our head coach. We said it early on that he has our backing, he has our full support as a team and no matter what, we just need to support him day in day out and we believe he is the man for the job and differently going to get us to the right place,” he told TV3 Sports.
