The Kumasi Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE), Mr. Osei Assibey-Antwi, has vowed to go the extra mile to rid the city of filth and bring back its beautiful scenery.
In line with this, he said, the assembly would soon launch what he termed “Operation keep the city clean” campaign.
He made this known at a meeting held with food vendors in the metropolis at the Centre for National Culture.
The goal was to help them to have better understanding of the need to keep the environment clean and avoid littering.
Mr. Assibey-Antwi warned that the assembly was going to get tough with anybody who breached the sanitation bye-laws.
He said it would not be ‘business as usual’ and that they were determined to ensure that there was real change.
He called for the support and cooperation of all the residents to restore Kumasi to its former status as the “Garden City of West Africa”.
The MCE expressed deep discomfort with the practice of dumping waste in open drains and waterways and said, that must end to remove the threat of an outbreak of communicable diseases.
The erection of unauthorised structures, he indicated, would also be tackled head-on.
