Mr Maxwell Kofi Asiedu, the District Chief Executive of Kadjebi, has declared the District a ‘no go area’ for illegal miners (galamseyers).
He noted that some illegal miners had started relocating to the district following the discovery of precious minerals in some areas there and said the assembly would not allow them to operate.
Mr Asiedu said this when he interacted with chiefs and people of Pampawie during a familiarisation tour of the district.
The DCE said the illegal miners were seeking concessions from the chiefs adding that he had asked the chiefs not to ‘entertain’ them.
He said activities of chainsaw operators were also depleting the forest cover of the district and called for support from the people to stop the practice.
He pledged the readiness of the assembly to ensure the rapid socioeconomic development of the district and asked for the support of the chiefs.
Okofrobour Nana Suboa Abasa II, the Paramount Chief of Pampawie, called for the reintroduction of mass cocoa spraying to protect the crop from black pod and other diseases.
He appealed to the assembly to construct a market at Pampawie to enhance economic activities.
