The living ex-presidents of Ghana on Sunday joined thousands of Ghanaians in a National Thanksgiving Service held to mark the Silver Jubilee anniversary of the Fourth Republic.
Retired Flight Lieutenant Jerry John Rawlings, John Agyekum Kufuor and John Dramani Mahama joined President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia at the Independence Square for the service.
The ex-presidents read the scriptures before the sermon.
First president of the Fourth Republic Mr Rawlings read the first scripture for the day.
He was followed by his successor, Mr Kufuor, who read the holy scriptures – Psalm 100:1-5 – from the New International Version.
The immediate past president, Mr Mahama, delivered the third reading from Luke 12:16-21.
Ghana’s current republic began on January 7, 1993 upon the swearing in of Mr Rawlings.
The country has since witnessed a record three transition of governments from an incumbent to the opposition.
The current government led by Nana Akufo-Addo took over from the John Mahama-led government, which had been in office since the death of Professor John Evans Atta Mills on July 24, 2012.
