J Initiative, a child online protection and Digital Literacy advocacy group, has been selected to represent Ghana in an ongoing Child Safety Summit in Dublin.
Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) Child Safety Summit dubbed “Google-Facebook Child Safety Summit” is aimed at bringing together academics, NGO’s & charities, politicians, Googlers and Facebookers to share expertise, progress, new plans and products.
The Summit aside assembling safety experts and organizations from Europe, Middle East and other African countries will focus on: fighting child sexual abuse online, discuss digital literacy projects, showcase child safety tools & products and many more.
“We are pleased to be taking part in this year’s Summit and most importantly joining Europe, Middle East and other Africa countries to exchange best practices, discuss how we can collectively protect children and young people online and to also put in place proactive measures to guarantee young people’s safety in the ever-changing virtual world,” Awo Aidam Amenyah, Executive Director of J Initiative told the journalists.
“We look forward to coming back to Ghana with a lot more innovative resources to ensure that parents, teachers and young people have the needed tools and knowledge they need to make responsible choices online,” remarked.
J Initiative was instrumental together with partners like World Vision International Ghana, Facebook, Vodafone-Ghana, Tigo-Ghana, Media Foundation for West Africa, Opening Learning, National Communications Authority and other collaborators in the celebration of Safer Internet Day 2017 (#SIDGhana) February in Ghana. It emphasized on the need for stakeholders working together to better protect children and young people online.
The 2nd annual EMEA Child Safety Summit, is being co-hosted by Google and Facebook, at Google’s offices in Dublin on April 27 and Facebook’s offices on April 28.
