Pro-New Patriotic Party (NPP) vigilante group Invisible Forces snatched ballot boxes and caused confusion which resulted in arrests during the record fourth elections to have Sarah Dugbakie Pobee confirmed as District Chief Executive for the Ada East District Assembly.
Previous elections had seen Ms Pobee fail to secure two-thirds of votes with the latest on Wednesday, October 25 seeing her only amass 19 out of 36 votes.
At Friday’s polls held at the Assembly’s hall after the constitutional 10-day elapsing period, Ms Pobee ramped up her votes to 27, representing 77 per cent to see her finally confirmed as the DCE.
But the process was disrupted by Invisible Forces, who invaded the grounds from nowhere.
Some Assembly members were slapped in the process, www.3news.com’s Josephine Frempong reported.
The Invisible Forces took over the elections, our reporter said.
The Presiding Member and three other members were arrested by the police.
Calm was later restored and counting went on smoothly.
It is unclear whether the assembly members will accept wholeheartedly results of the elections given the events that led to the declaration.
