First Lady, Mrs. Rebecca Akufo-Addo, says innovation is key to solving real and difficult challenges facing the country and its people.
She made the statement at the African Innovation Foundation’s (AIF’s) annual innovation prize for Africa (IPA) which started on Monday, July 17, 2017 and ended yesterday in Accra.
In her address, the First Lady mentioned of the fact that Ghanaians needed to throw a spotlight on the various innovations and world class creativity which was being produced in the country.
She said because “this is not normally done, citizens and people from some parts of the world turn to look at more developed regions leaving the African countries, especially, Ghana for that matter behind, however, through our very own initiatives like the IPA, the country is able to compete on the international front.”
She was of the view that it was important for “us, as a nation to tell our story, thus support those who drive economic growth through their innovation and creativity.”
The First Lady noted that it was time enablers provide mentorship and coaching to up and coming youngsters who wish to delve into the fields of creativity and innovation, adding that one of the hallmarks of the government was to put these two at the core of the national agenda.
She added that government plans to establish ‘ICT incubator hubs’ in all the regional capitals to help facilitate the innovation and creativity process.
She commended the IPA nominees, the AIF and its founder, Jean Claude Bastos de Morais, and their partners for their outstanding efforts in putting Africa on the international map.
