Legal practitioner and a member of the Convention People’s Party (CPP) Kwame Jantuah says the litmus test for President Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo-Addo’s government, for him, will be the number of jobs the president creates.
Therefore, he finds it too early to assess the six-month stay in office of the president.
President Akufo-Addo has himself admitted that the success of his government will be judged based on the number of jobs he creates.
“I am well aware that the success or otherwise of my administration will be judged largely on job creation,” he told journalists at his first media encounter last Tuesday.
He also called for time when a question on the number of jobs he has created so far – in his first six months – was posed.
Speaking on TV3’s New Day on Saturday, Mr Jantuah argued that because it is too early to assess the government on job creation, it is fair that a total verdict on the economy is not made on the first six months.
He explained that a holistic approach should be used in assessing the economy, advocating a shift from the selective analysis usually done.
The oil expert advised against lifting some sectors of the economy to prove its health, a phenomenon largely embraced by politicians.
He, nonetheless, called for a move away from wholesale export of raw materials to adding value to resources in order to enrich the economy.
