The Inspector General of Police (IGP), David Asante-Apeatu, has expressed sympathies to the family of late Captain Maxwell Adam Mahama, who was murdered in cold blood in Denkyira-Obuasi in the Central Region last Monday.
In a statement issued by the Public Affairs Directorate of the Ghana Police Service on Wednesday, May 31, the IGP and the police administration also commiserated with “the Ghana Armed Forces for the gruesome murder of Captain Maxwell Adam Mahama”.
Signed by Deputy Director of the Directorate Sheila Kessie Abayie-Buckman, the statement said the police are collaborating with the military high command to unravel the circumstances that led to the murder.
“The Inspector General of Police assures the public that the police will employ all means possible to uncover circumstances leading to the murder and those behind it.”
To this end, a warning has been issued to all those involved in the heinous act “to surrender to the nearest Police Station”.
So far, a specialist team comprising homicide squad, crime scene management and action units of Police Operations has been dispatched to Denkyira-Obuasi to gather further evidence on the murder.
The police say six suspects including the assemblyman, Wiliam Baah, have been rounded up.
The police have also assured all residents in and around Dekyira-Obuasi of protection in the lockdown.
“They are therefore entreated to volunteer information leading to the arrest of persons involved in the gruesome murder by reporting to the nearest police station or call Police on 18555 (MTN and Vodafone).”
