The District Chief Executive for Nkoranza North in the Brong Ahafo Region has promised to be a role model for the youth, especially girls in her district.
“We will look at education and I will serve as a role model for the female child that they should look at me and go to school so that they can become like me”, she promised.
“We shall help the needy in the area to further their education” Madam Akosa Arthur gave the assurance in an interview with Onua FM’s Ghana Dadwen on Monday after her confirmation as the DCE.
All the 37 assembly members voted yes to endorse her nomination for the DCE position.
The nomination ceremony which was supervised by the Electoral Commission was also attended by the Deputy Minister for Defence who is also the Member of Parliament for Nkoranza North Constituency, Major Retired Derrick Oduro; Brong Ahafo Regional Minister, Kwaku Asuma Cheremeh, traditional leaders, among others.
Madam Akosa Arthur told Onua FM that people in her district are predominantly farmers but their roads are in deplorable state so “my vision is to make them motorable…
“Farmers cannot bring their goods to the market so I will work with the assembly members, nananom and the MP to make sure the roads are constructed”, Madam Akosa added.
1-district, 1 factory
On the government’s 1-district, 1-factory policy, the DCE said the people grow corn and cashew and “we need to add value to it so that we can send it outside to sell and generate revenue”.
She added, “We have to also build market because we don’t have a market here…they always go to Nkoranza South so we must build a market here”.
Madam Akosa said the district can boast of the tourist sites such as the ‘monkey sanctuary’ but “the revenue from the monkey sanctuary does not come to the assembly so I will liaise with the chiefs and those in charge to ensure that we utilize the revenue”.
She promised to follow up with those who were involved in the microfinance scam and see what she and the assembly can do about.
“We shall follow the DKM people and negotiate for them to start payment of the money to the victims”, Madam Akosa added.
