President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has debunked assertions that his government sought to sell the sovereignty of Ghana to the United State of America through the US-Ghana military corporation agreement.
Addressing the nation on issues bordering on the agreement on Thursday, the president made an emphatic statement of his commitment to protecting the peace and sovereignty of Ghana.
“I will never be the president that will compromise or sell the sovereignty of our country. I respect deeply the memory of our deep patriots who sacrificed and toiled brought about our independence and freedom,” President Akufo-Addo stated.
President Akufo-Addo made it clear that Ghana has not offered a military base, and will not offer a military base to the United States of America.
He further stated that the United States of America has not made any request for the establishment of a military base in the country.
The President described as defamatory comments about his supposed intention to let out the sovereignty of the country to foreigners.
“Let me state how outraged I am by the defamatory comments from my political opponents, some of whose patriotism can be easily questioned that the sovereignty of this country has been sold by my government and myself.”
President Akufo-Addo stated that he has remained focused in fighting for the individual and collective right of the people of Ghana.
He reiterated his resolve to ensure that he creates an independent and prosperous country to the envy of many.
“I have stood with you the Ghanaian people all my adult life. Everything I have done since assuming the great honour and privilege of serving you as the president of the republic demonstrates that I remain focus of building a self-reliant and free prosperous Ghana for the growth and development of Africa and the world.”
The President cautioned Ghanaians to desist from influences that sought to tell them anything either than the agenda of building a prosperous Ghana.
“Reject the hypocrisy of naysayers who led our country into bankruptcy and the worse economic record of modern Ghanaian history.”
President Akufo-Addo further urged the entire citizenry to concentrate on working together to achieve the goal of a happy and prosperous Ghana.
