Majority leader of Parliament, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu has stated strongly that he lives “a strict life, quite apart from everything” when asked whether or not he has ever taken bribe as a Member of Parliament.
He says he does not even recall anybody coming to him in an attempt to bribe him.
The Member of Parliament for the Suame constituency who doubles as the Minister for Parliamentary Affairs said this in a one-on-one interview with Media General’s Kwakye Afreh-Nuamah, which will be aired Monday, April 30, on New Day at 8:00am.
According to the Majority Leader, he has been a key member of parliamentary anti-corruption associations, both local and foreign, that hold high certain principles that would not allow him succumb to any acts of bribery and corruption.
“In Ghana, until about a month and half ago, I was the local Chairman of the group that is called APNAC, that is African Parliamentarians Network Against Corruption, I was the Chairman of the Ghana parliament chapter”.
“ In Africa, the whole of Africa I was the continental Chairman, and in the world body which is called GOPAC, Gobal Organisation of Parliamentarians Against Corruption, I was until three months ago the Vice Chairman, the global Vice Chairman and we have our own code of conduct”, he added.
He stated categorically, “I will not engage myself in that [bribery and corruption].
The leader of the majority side of the legislature will however not describe himself as being incorruptible stating that “It is only God who is incorruptible”. He argues he only tries to apply to strict rules and allows the public to judge whether or not he is incorruptible.
“You want to apply yourself to rigid rules but you do not tell yourself I’m incorruptible. It is for people out there to judge you by your conduct to say that this man is incorruptible. You don’t blow your own horn to say I’m incorruptible”, he observed.
He believes it is by the grace of God that he has been able to live a life that does not make him susceptible to bribery and corruption.
