Minister of Health Kwaku Agyemang-Manu has discounted reports that he terminated the appointment of the Medical Director of the Ridge Hospital without recourse to due process.
According to him, he only reassigned Dr Thomas Anaba to the University of Development Studies (UDS), where he he has been lecturing prior to his appointment on February 1, 2016.
Dr Anaba has expressed disagreement with the termination of his appointment, heaping blame solely on the head of the Health Minister.
““I hold the minister responsible,” Dr Anaba declared on 3FM’s Sunrise on Tuesday, May 16.
But in an interview with 3FM’s Sarah Parku on Wednesday on the sidelines of the opening of the Greater Accra Regional Hospital, previously known as the Ridge Hospital, Mr Agyemang-Manu said Dr Anaba had no managerial skills to head the facility.
“If he wants me to tell Ghanaians why I have reassigned him back to the University, I will so do,” an obviously livid Health Minister said.
“Let him come and bring him his management expertise.”
He said he followed due process since a Minister can act, as per the public sector regulations, in the absence of a board.
He, however, clarified that “I cannot sack him because I have not employed him. I don’t pay him.”
Dr Anaba was asked on Monday, May 15 to hand over to Dr Emmanuel Kwabla Srofenyoh, a move he said was enforced within two hours by the Greater Accra Regional Director of the Ghana Health Service.
