Officers of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) had to resort to water from a swimming pool to suppress a fire that had engulfed a house near the Nigerian High Commission at Roman Ridge in Accra.
The fire officers, having failed to put out the fire after exhausting three tanks of water, turned to the house’s swimming pool in the house before bringing the blaze under control.
Most items in the building were destroyed by the time the fire was quenched.
Meanwhile, a former Deputy Minister for the Interior, James Agalga, has said the GNFS will need to be resourced to enable them fight fires more effectively.
According to him, although the John Mahama administration provided several fire tenders as a way of resourcing the service, the current government will have to ensure that those tenders are maintained and additional ones provided.
