HFC Bank Ghana, a member of Republic Financial Holdings Limited (RFHL) of Trinidad and Tobago, marked Mother’s day with a donation to the inmates of the Nsawam Female Prisons last week.
The items donated to the facility included sewing machines, a mower, assorted toiletries, text books and food items.
The event took place at the forecourt of the main Female Prison yard at Nsawam in the Eastern Region.
Speaking at the event, the Marketing and Corporate Relations Manager of HFC Bank Ghana, Mrs. Genevieve Aboney indicated that Mother’s day celebration is a major calendar event of the Bank’s Staff Volunteerism Program purposely to support and enrich the experience of the less privileged women in our society.
She added that this year’s focus on female inmates was selected by the staff of the Bank to appreciate Mothers that have been confined.
To the staff, Motherhood is neither temporary nor limited by walls. It is for a lifetime that ought to be celebrated. ‘It is in this light that each staff of HFC Bank Ghana voluntarily contributes to the ‘My Mother, My Joy’ initiative of the Bank, she added.
Mrs. Aboney therefore urged the inmates to make use of the sewing machines to build entrepreneurial skills in fashion. She also urged the Prisons Services to provide other entrepreneurial development programs for the inmates.
Superintendent Esi Gomado, who received the items on behalf of DDP Araba Magnusen, Officer-in-Charge of the facility thanked HFC Bank Ghana for the kind gesture and promised to ensure that the items are put to the beneficial use of all inmates.
The ‘My Mother, My Joy’ project is an annual initiative by the Staff of HFC Bank Ghana through a Volunteerism Program.
Last year, the staff of the Bank reached out to the Head Porters (also known as Kayayei) in major cities in Ghana with assorted items worth over Ten Thousand Ghana Cedis.
Staff Volunteerism Program (SVP) is an initiative introduced by the current Managing Director of the Bank, Mr. Robert Lu Hunte to involve staff in community engagement activities.
Notable initiatives funded by HFC Bank staff under the Volunteerism Program were; the renovation of the children’s block of the Tamale SDA Hospital, the building of an ultra modern pre-school block for the Manchie community in Accra, donation to the Accra Psychiatric Hospital, donation to Prampram Clinic and many more.
