Items donated included; bags of rice, cooking oil, assorted drinks, and bottles of water in addition to the annual drug donation.
In an interview with the Ghana News Agency, Mr Frank Kofi Ayivor, the Club President said, the donation also formed part of their 25th anniversary celebration of the club in Ghana.
Mr Ayivor said the club, made up of professionals of varying backgrounds, was committed to dedicating their time, talent and treasure to serve humanity.
He said: “In our bid to serve humanity, we have dedicated the month of May every year to provide a list of drugs for patients here at the facility in consultation with the matron.”
According to the Club President, the annual donation had been consistent in the past five years, saying the “club also perform eye screening, health screening and community service including general cleaning every month of the year”.
Mrs Vivian Shadrof, matron of the Help Age Ghana centre, who received the items expressed their gratitude to the club for their timely aid and kind gesture.
She hoped that other institutions would emulate the gesture and promised that they would put the donation to good use.
Ms Ethel Boakye, the Administration and Media Coordinator at Help Age Ghana said the LIONS club had been donating drugs to the Help Age Ghana every year, which they distributed to their various day care centres across the country.
Ms Boakye called on other institutions to help the aged with funding as the Non-Governmental Organization was committed to caring for the aged in societies in the country.
She indicated that Help Age Ghana faces challenges such as inadequate drugs for the aged in their centres.
