Former Black Stars captain, Stephen Appiah, has tasked Coach Kwasi Appiah to find a worthy successor to replace current captain, Asamoah Gyan, in the shortest possible time.
Asamoah Gyan secured a record 50 goals for the national team against Ethiopia in the 2019AFCON qualifiers but the former Juventus midfielder believes finding a replacement worthy of Gyan’s status and quality will be relevant and vital for the future of the Black Stars.
After 13 years of playing for Ghana, many Ghanaians believe Asamoah Gyan who is popularly referred to as Baby Jet, has paid his dues to the Ghana football.
Gyan was part of the first Black Stars to FIFA World Cup in Germany and has subsequently led the Stars attack and two major World Cups in South Africa and Brazil.
The enigmatic captain has also led the Black Stars twice to the finals of the AFCON but Appiah has called on Coach Kwasi Appiah to find a dependable replacement for the former Udinese, Rennes and Stoke City striker.
“Gyan is an excellent player, he is a great player, scoring 50 goals for the national team is not easy, you know he can’t play forever and he is at his peak now, even though he is still our top scorer and he is still scoring.
“It is very important that at this point we get someone who can succeed him and so we can count on the person anytime Gyan is not around.” ” he said on GHone TV.
Gyan is currently training with the Black Stars to embark on double-header friendly with Mexico and the USA.
