Artiste Manager Mel Kwasi Davis, who doubles as the boss of Event Republic, has stated emphatically that hip-life artiste Guru cannot be classified as an A-List artiste in Ghana.
Explaining who an A-List artiste is, Mel Kwasi Davis said an “A-List artiste must be an artiste who has a track record and he/she must be relevant in the current dispensation.
“There is another level of A-List artiste who has a track record but he may not be ‘hot’ in this dispensation [but] because of his/her track record, he can be rated among the hottest artiste.
“When I’m talking about track record I mean an artiste with awards, shows, following, number of songs/albums – all these are put together to have the first category of A-List artiste,” he explained to Christian Agyei Frimpong on Accra-based Onua 95.1 FM on entertainment talk show Anigye Mmre on Friday, May 12.
“The second category can be likened to a musician like Kojo Antwi, who dosen’t have lots of songs or hit songs in our current dispensation but anytime you need him for an event, he can charge the event organizer an amount Shatta Wale will charge.
“Compare artistes like Sarkodie, Shatta Wale, Stonebwuoy, Okyeame Kwame and EL to Guru.
“Guru has lots of hit songs but does he have the awards? Does he have the endorsement, shows, following etc? Guru is not an A LIST ARTISTE in Ghana.”
