A combined armed military and police team allegedly pointed a gun at the wife of embattled businessman Alfred Agbesi Woyome when they stormed the couple’s home Tuesday morning.
The action of the joint operation has been condemned by the MP for South Tongu, Koblah Woyome as “outrageous” and akin to what pertains in a military regime.
The MP who happens to be the brother of the businessman confirmed the ‘unfortunate’ incident to Onua News on Tuesday.
He was livid calling the action “unacceptable since we are not at war and also not in a military regime.”
Though the law maker said he was not in the country, pictures and videos sent to him by friends and relatives show “injustice” being perpetrated against his brother’s family.
“It is only God who has protected and preserved me and my family for all these six years of injustice”, he reiterated.
The state has been pursuing Alfred Agbesi Woyome since 2014 to refund 51 millions cedis he received through a judgment debt.
The Supreme Court ruled that Mr Woyome received the money from the government for an invalid contract between the state and Waterville Holdings Limited in 2006 for the construction of stadia for CAN 2008.
Meanwhile, Onua News was early on told the joint military and police force was in Alfred Woyome’s house to value his house and to subsequently auction it. Onua News is however unable to independently confirm that.
Disturbed Koblah Woyome told told Onua News that he had admired the president’s promise to Ghanaians to respect and abide by the rule of law, “but if under his administration such illegality should occur in the first place then it should be condemned by all well meaning citizens”.
According to him, government is aware the case against his brother is still pending at the Supreme Court and also at the Africa Human Rights Court. “What kind of hurry is the government of the day that they should trample upon the fundamental human rights of my brother?” he quizzed.
He stressed that pointing a gun at the businessman’s wife was unlawful, stating “unless the president and his government are trying to tell Ghanaians that what they promised about insisting on rule of law during campaign period was just cheap lip service”.
The MP argued that the heavily armed security personnel have no right to visit the residence of the businessman in the first place when the case is pending before competent courts, which judgment can go in favour of his brother.
Will the government then regret these actions, he asked.
