The governing bodies of Film production in Kumasi has not been serious since day one. Ask me why and I will give you the basic facts that justify my reason.
It all started emerging when Dzogbetsi Francis, who defines himself Nebu Ur ’Majesty named his son after an international search engine called “Google”. A true depiction of his cluelessness in the movie, which he expects his son to guide during maturity. The sad part of the story is that almost everybody online has fallen in love with his stories recently without advising the producer for the degradation he is causing the so-called “Kumawood” Industry. Well, let me give you a reason why this garbage must stop to raise the standard of the Kumawood Market.
I was sent a video of Kwadwo Nkansah in a studio recording a song entitled “Tonga no de3 wob3di, nanso akyire as3m” which means, “You can be entitled to sex but do not rule away its side” A song too profane to be released as a celebrity whose influence to the society is very strong. It looks like there is no leader in the Ghana Actors Guild to control this guy. How he and Kwaku Manu’s battle has brought about separation in the Film Industry of late leading to abuse online from one fan base to another. Are there no managers to sit him down and talk to him sense? Is there no law to strip his powers and arrest his stinking words? What is going on as a body?
Gone are the days of Miracle Films’ Samuel Kwasi Nyamekye. We all know how tied Agya Koo and others with good stories that educated the society years ago. How Agya Koo’s movie excelled globally giving access for Kings and Queens to enjoy every brim of Miracle Films and a few others after years of negligence. That was when Kwaku Twumasi was the chairman of the Ghana Actors’ Guild. A man full of discipline and guidance through whom Nana Ama Mcbrown, Burger Silvia, Mercy Asiedu, Asare Bediako all hit the screens as celebrities. Ask, whose time is this baloney entertained. Guess who? Bill Asamoah, the Ghana Actor’s Guild chairman, Ashanti Region. Hmm!!!
Does our industry really have a future? Maybe not. Judging from what is going on; it looks like everybody owes half of the production. It seems the industry is not an organized body with bosses. The film trade is a white elephant with no significance. If this was how the elders handled the whole body, it would not have survived for the young to be imparted. Though there was no solid foundation laid to build upon, yet, the resources in our time can be used meaningfully to strengthen and educate the youth on cultures of the land.
I am starting to understand why Nebu Ur’ Majesty is employing his family for his movies. Why? Because the price of some artiste can even shoot a completely better project. If the GAG, FIPAG, ARSOG, FDGG and so-called governing body do not start making cooperation now, Kumawood will go on its knees just like how its prestigious brand is owned by one. I understand why Jackson K. Bentum started this family reunion project. He saw the end from the beginning and it looks like that is the trend Nebu has adopted to save him and his family from the atrocity of the Kumawood scenes that is yet to befall.
