The Chief Executive Officer of Dannywise Estate and Construction Frank Danyansah has declared an audacious ambition to establish a contemporary gold refinery in Obuasi as part of his civic responsibility to combat unlawful mineral extraction activities in the Ashanti region.
Many of the youth in the gold mining town have been thrown out of jobs following the relocation of AngloGold Ashanti from its concession sparking series of youth protests demanding compensation and re-engagement.
Illegal mining activities have also triggered public uproar after reports emerged large portions of Ghana’s vegetation cover and water bodies serving as main sources of domestic water use have been destroyed – with foreigners, politicians, chiefs and security agencies being accused of aiding the illegality.
Danyansah explained that building a modern gold processing plant in the Obuasi town would help create thousands of job opportunities for young people in the area, cut down crime rate and drastically reduce galamsey activities.
“The gold refinery will see to the processing of gold ore into finished products in the District and will be capable of solving unemployment problem in Obuasi that grows day by day, because about 1000s of jobs will be created when the master plan is finally is implemented,” he said.
The young Ghanaian award winning Chief Executive said he was deeply inspired by his vast entrepreneurial expertise and the craving to make lifelong impact on living conditions of other people with a development focus agenda to slit severe poverty to reasonable proportion in the area.
“The Obuasi people deserve better living conditions and ought to be empowered to control their destiny and resources, he said.
“I plan to do a lot of things in my constituency to get closer to the constituents but looking at the rising dangers of this illegal mining my focus has been shifted to putting a factory that would at least stop this galamsey thing depriving livelihoods of many Ghanaians.”
However, he said, all the efforts of the private sector involvement in the construction industry and the economy would come to nothing if managers of the economy failed to institute and enforce the right policies to protect local businesses.
