General Manager of Accra Great Olympics, Mr. Oloboi Commodore has slammed former coach, Godwin Attram for passing what he described as derogatory comments on the clubs management over their poor showing since joining the Ghana Premier League (GPL).
Attram, 36, who was replaced with Swedish coach Tom Strand after guiding the Dade Boys from the GN Bank Division One league to the GPL last season, has insisted that the club’s management have contributed to their abysmal performance which has sunk them to the bottom of the league table.
He has also blamed the club for failing to exercise patience with him during his tenure.
But Mr. Commodore in a rebuttal advised the former national U-17 captain to cease commenting on the clubs operations since it is obvious he has opted out on his role as assistant coach. He described Atram’s approach as “childish and a deliberate attempt to tarnish the image of the club”.
Mr. Commodore added that Attram has no justification to criticize the club’s performance since he is a major contributor to their inability to progress despite the tremendous support he had received from management.
He explained that the club has witnessed remarkable improvement under Tom Strand compared to his tenure as head coach.
“If Attram says we are the cause of the club’s woes, that is his opinion but what did he do when he was at the helm of affairs? We had just a point from the first four matches in the league and conceded the highest number of goals at that time. So what is he saying,” Oluboi told Happy FM in Accra.
“Tom Strand has shown he is better than Attram. So he must shut up. He must give us a break. He only talks when Olympics lose a game but we shall soldier on,” he added.
Mr. Commodore also lamented on the alleged reports of club officials paying bonuses to the opposing teams when Olympics suffer defeats in the league. He warned that such practices coupled with unnecessary internal bickering should be avoided to enhance their chances in escaping relegation.
“We know all those who pay winning bonuses to our opponents when we lose a game. We know them very well and at the appropriate time, we will respond to them.
When asked whether he was suspecting Attram as the one doing that Mr. Commodore said: “We don’t just suspect him. But we know who is behind that,”
Olympics are currently 15th on the table, two places from the bottom with 19 points from 20 matches and may end up being relegated if they fail to improve their game. They welcome Wa All Stars at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday in week 21 of the Ghana Premier League.
