Recent reports reveal that cases of defilement in Assin Fosu in the Central Region have become rampant. According to findings, the bizarre practice has been going on in the municipality for some time now without drastic measures being taken against the suspects and culprits.
However, the most recent case of defilement involving a 4-year-old girl, Jessica at Assin Adadientem has drawn the attention of the media, owing to its controversial nature.
Mother of the 4-year-old defilement victim, Madam Monica Nyarko who narrated the incident to Joy News at the St Francis-Xavier Hospital where the girl is receiving treatment, said she was away on a funeral when her girl was tampered with.

It happened on October 14, that one 18-year-old Kwabena, the suspect, came to Madam Nyarko’s home and sent her 8-year-old daughter who was looking after her little sister [the 4-year-old] to go and buy him coconut.
Immediately she left, Kwabena took the little girl to the toilet and warned her not to respond if her sister comes back and call her, threatening to kill her with a stick if she disobeys. He then forced his manhood into the little girl and afterward carried her on his shoulder and dropped her at the back of her home because she could not walk.
Madam Nyarko only discovered what happened when her little girl protested when she was bathing her upon her return because of the severe pains she was feeling. It was then that she narrated to her mother what happened.
The little girl who bled for three days after the incident and could not pass urine until recently, could barely stand or walk due to pains, and it is seriously taking a toll on her health.
In search of justice, mother of the defiled girl, Madam Nyarko reported the issue to the chief of the area. But the chief said the community deity declared Kwabena, the suspect innocent of the act and so no action can be taken against him regarding the alleged offence.

Meanwhile, a staff of the Domestic Violence Unit of the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection, Victoria Natsu, has blamed Madam Nyarkofor reporting the matter to the community chief instead of the police. According to her, the act is a criminal offence and so should first be reported to the police for them to apprehend the suspect and investigate the matter.
The Gender Ministry is however, intensifying efforts to see that justice is served Monica Nyarko and her daughter.
“We Don’t Know the Village” – Police Unable To Arrest Kwabena
As at the time of this report, the Assin Fosu Police are yet to lay hands on the defilement suspect because the father of the victim, Isaac Kofi is in Accra and has not returned to the station after laying his complaints about a week ago.
According to the Divisional Police Commander at Assin Fosu, Chief Supt. Henry Bacho who spoke on Joy FM‘s Super Morning Show today [Wednesday], they need Jessica’s father to show them the way as they do not know Adadietem where the incident occurred.
“The child mentioned one Kwabena [but] we cannot go round and look for Kwabena; we don’t know the village…that is why we need the father to lead us,” Chief Supt. Bacho stated.
A journalist who resides in the area, Oscar Dadzie revealed that rape and defilement in the Assin Fosu municipality has been on the rise.
“It is very rampant here. This year alone, a similar incident happened at Assin Ayitey in which a teacher defiled a 3-year-old child. Within a week, at Assin Lartey, a seven-month-old baby was defiled by her 24-year-old elder brother,” he recounted to Joy New’s Maxwell Agbagba.
“Also, at Assin Adiembra, a 13-year-old pupil was defiled by a 52-year-old man. Then again in Assin Awireso, a 15-year-old girl was defiled by her stepfather in the bush as they were going to tap palm wine,” he added.

In another incident, the journalist said at Assin Manso, a 13-year-old iced water seller was gang-raped by three guys to the point of unconsciousness. She was dumped in the forest and her decomposed body was later found.
Again, last week a 16-year-old girl on her way to dump refuse was kidnapped and raped by a 32-year-old man for three days without food or water.
According to him, whenever such incidents happen, some of the chiefs sit and plan how to settle them without going to the police station.
