A successful media interaction was held on Friday, July 28, 2017 as Spyder Lee Entertainment, organisers of GN Bank Awards, unveiled a new name for its award scheme.
According to the organisers, the GN Bank Awards’ will now be known as ‘People’s Celebrity Awards.’
The award scheme recognises players in the showbiz industry by awarding them. It also celebrates individuals who have contributed, in diverse ways, to making the entertainment industry a success.
Speaking to journalists in Accra, Administrator for the awards, Mr. Chris Koney, said the move was to stay off the controversy that rocked the scheme when it debuted in 2015.
In 2015 a legal tussle between Spyder Lee Entertainment and Evolution International over the name People’s Choice Awards led to a change of name to GN Bank Awards.
Although the event took place, Spyder Lee was left with brand reconciliation issues to solve, hence the new name—‘People’s Celebrity Awards.’
According to the organisers, this year’s event will take place later this year.
For his part, Corporate Affairs Manager of Groupe Nduom (GN), Mr. Richmond Duke Keelson, stated that the new name will change the face of entertainment industry in Ghana.
“We are going to experience another bigger and better awards scheme this year,” he assured.
Members of the awards board who are respected individuals within the Ghanaian showbiz industry were introduced at the event.
They were Nana Nana Poku Osei (Hammer of Last Two Music Group), Mary-Ann Acolatse (Broadcaster), Kwasi Kyei Darkwah (KKD, Broadcaster), Socrate Safo (Movie Producer), Nana Bayin Dadson (Lecturer AUCC), Tommy Annan Forson (Broadcaster) and Patrick Yaadar (Movie Producer) and Chris Koney (Awards Administrator).
The rest were Alex Ntiamoah-Boakye (Sports Promoter), Ahuma Bosco Ocansey (Broadcaster & Executive Member, MUSIGA), Fred Kyei Mensah (Music Producer), Bertrand Nana Turkson (Entertainment Enthusiast), Arnold Asamoah Baidoo (Editor, Entertainmentgh.com) and Edwin Kweku Edinkrah (Chief Executive Officer , Spyder Lee Entertainment).
