The Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) has issued an alert to all Ghanaian citizens against travelling to neighbouring Togo due to the political tension in that country.
Two days of mass procession on major streets by members of the opposition parties have left security fragile in the Francophone country.
Internet service has been shut down while mobile service cannot be accessed, 3news.com has been told.
The current situation has left many fearing an imminent explosion in that country as the opposition calls for the resignation of President Faure Gnassingbe.
Speaking in an interview on TV3’s News 360 on Thursday, the Director of Public Affairs at GIS, Michael Amoako Attah, said: “We still think it should be good that people travelling to Lome will be cautious”.
This comes on the back of a similar warning issued last month after the deadly protests by the Coalition of Opposition Parties.
They have been calling for the resignation of President Gnassingbe to mark the end of the Gnassingbe dynasty.
Not even the presence of the United Nations Special Representative of the Secretary-General for West Africa and the Sahel, Dr Mohamed Ibn Chambas, will deter the opposition from backing down.
