UCMAS Champion – For those who do not know, a Ghanaian won the recently held Universal Concept of Mental and Arithmetic System (UCMAS) global competition.
9-year-old Enoch Asiedu of Bethelinter Academy beat competition from contestants from 56 countries to clinch honors for Ghana in the competition held in Malaysia.

The victor was met at the Kumasi Airport by a huge welcome party of management, staff, and children of Bethelinter Academy as well as relatives and well-wishers.
Enoch won the regional and national stages to emerge as Ghana’s representative at the international competition. The 9-year-old UCMAS champion has lifted Ghana’s flag high by grabbing picking the first prize in the above -age-seven category.
There at the airport parents and family of the young boy could not hide their excitement as they hailed alongside the elated crowd. Enoch’s father who spoke on his son’s recent feat urged parents to prioritize their children’s education as they stand to gain a lot from doing so.

The Ashanti Regional Coordinator of UCMAS, Erasmus Asamoah Cudjoe also joined in this call as he urged that government should consider the proposal for adoption of the program nationwide.
UCMAS program is designed to boost brain power and stimulate young minds using abacus and mental arithmetic in a way that children find engaging and fun. It was established a bid to rekindle interest students’ interest in mathematics.
It is not just about solving complex mathematical problems using mental arithmetic, but also about instilling and boosting confidence at that early stage in life.
UCMAS program enables children to look at a mathematical problem in a different way, giving them the foundation they need to be successful.
