Physically challenged business magnate and owner of the NTK group of companies; Ntim Twumasi Kwaku is warning that leaders are doing the country a disservice by refusing to make society disability friendly.
His comments come in the back of Ghana’s failure to implement provisions in the disability act which requires that transport facilities and public buildings be made accessible to all groups of persons with disability.
Speaking on Ultimate fm’s News analysis program the Fact File, Mr Ntim Twumasi who has been wheel chair bound for the past thirteen years through a motor accident indicated that living with disability in Ghana is an arduous task.
He underscored the need for the nation to recognize the likelihood of able persons crossing into disability by virtue of accidents, old age and ill health.
“Disability is such that you are able today but in your old age you will be disabled and it is as close to you as death. I woke up one day dressed as a soldier and I ended up in a car wreck and that was the last time I stood on both feet.
Calling on the state to make provisions and policies to support persons with disability NTK as he is popularly called noted, “If you lay a good foundation for the disabled person, tomorrow when you go blind, or you go deaf or you can’t walk without support, or when diseases like diabetes happen, it is then you will sit back and say it is good I implemented these things.”
Ntim Twumasi Kwaku has acquitted himself as a business man owning the NTK group of companies in Ejisu in the Ashanti region and continues to inspire persons with disability to aim high.
