Premier League Board (PLB) has postponed the match day 24 fixture between WAFA and Kumasi Asante Kotoko in Sogakope, Volta Region, on Sunday, July 23, 2017.
The postponement was necessitated by a medical report submitted to the PLB by Kotoko, which declared their players medically unfit to play, following the accident the club suffered last week on their way back to Kumasi after a league match with Inter Allies in Accra.
According to the medical report, six players out of those examined could return to training and active play, with majority of the players requiring a period of not less than two weeks to fully recover.
The PLB, however, has resolved in a press statement to continue with the rest of the match day 24 fixtures with the hope that Asante Kotoko will be ready to play by match day 25 on August 2/3, 2017.
In Accra, Hearts of Oak would seek to continue their bid to win the Ghana Premier League by welcoming Tema Youth to the Accra Sports Stadium. Beaming with confidence over their triumph against city rivals, Inter Allies, on Sunday, Tema Youth will certainly prove to be a force to reckon with against the Phobians.
Still in Accra, struggling Liberty Professional’s ambition to survive the relegation zone will be put to test when they face-off with another relegation threatened side, AshantiGold at the Carl Rendolf Park. Inter Allies will also be determined to worsen the woes of Great Olympics when the duo clash at the El-Wak Stadium.
In Elmina, the Fearsome Sharks will return to the Nduom Stadium with their eyes set on retaining themselves in the GPL when they battle Bechem United. With three straight wins in a row, Sharks’ chances of sealing a win remains undaunted.
Currently, placed 11th on the league log with an accumulated 30 points, a win for Sharks would propel them to the 6th position of the league log if Ebusua Dwarfs fail to grab all three points against Wa All Stars at the Robert Mensah Stadium in Cape Coast.
Medeama SC will also take advantage of Kotoko’s absence to join the top four race when they battle second placed, Aduana Stars, at the T&A Park in Tarkwa while relegation bound, Bolga All Stars, will return home to face Berekum Chelsea.
Meanwhile, he PLB has warned that should Kotoko fail to be medically ready to play by the 25th week, the league will be put on hold.
