The Fearsome Elmina Sharks recorded their fourth consecutive win in the Ghana Premier League (GPL) with a pulsating 2-1 victory over Bechem United on match day 24 at the Nduom Stadium at Elmina in the Central Region.
Sharks welcomed the Hunters to the Nduom Stadium with the hope of extending their three-match winning streak. With that in mind the Fearsome Sharks as early in the 7th minute took the lead through midfielder, Felix Addo, whose low shot beat goalkeeper, Prince Asempa, from his near post.
Sharks did not let down their guard after taking the lead and just as the game looked to be done and dusted, Felix Addo popped up again to add to his goal tally to send coach Yaw Acheampong’s side 7th on the league table.
Bechem United however, managed to get a consolation a minute later courtesy Sadiq Hadji Abubakar in the 91st minute. With this victory, Elmina Sharks moved above Bechem United with 33 points after 24 games.
In Accra, Hearts of Oak won convincingly against a Tema Youth side who exhibited immense bravery.
Skipper of the side, Thomas Abbey, who is looking like the club’s player of the season as he has often done, scored the first goal to reduce the tension and set the ball rolling.
He was back again to play with Kwame Kizito as he scored his second goal.
With everyone expecting a 2-0 score line, Joseph Paintsil reduced the score line before Hearts of Oak skipper scored the third goal to restore Hearts 2 goal advantage.
The victory was vital to the Phobians who are currently four points above their arch rivals, Kumasi Asante Kotoko, who had their match against West African Football Academy(WAFA), postponed.
Liberty Professionals also secured the three maximum points over relegation-threatened, Ashantigold, at the Carl Reindolf Park in Dansoman, Accra, courtesy a late goal from veteran striker, Ernest Papa Arko.
Both teams needed the points to better their stand on the league but Michael Osei’s men got the deserved win in the 72nd minute to sink Ashantigold to the 14th position ahead of their encounter away to wounded Bechem United.
Great Olympics also managed to secure all three points through a lone goal at the expense of Inter Allies at the El-Wak Stadium in Accra while relegation bound, Bolga All Stars, woefully lost to Berekum Chelsea by 3-0 at the Tamale Utrecht Park.
