The Black Starlets of Ghana have made the country proud by coming out victorious in their first match in the 2017 U-17 World Cup tournament which came off today [October 6] at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in India.
Ghana beat Columbia 1-0 in the tough opening game which has been described as an end to end action from the beginning to the end of the entire 90 minutes.

Saddick Ibrahim was the first to be put through on the Ghanaian side, but his shot went over the wood work. Just after some few minutes, Toku’s pass found Saddick Ibrahim, yet the latter’s goal was ruled off side.
The Black Starlets finally got the break through when Toku’s ball found Eric and the skipper’s inswing was perfectly slotted home by Saddick Ibrahim in the 38th minute.
After the first half break, it was Ghana who got the first opportunity of the remaining half, but Eric Ayiah was denied by the Colombian goalie.
Throughout the game, both sides had plenty of chances to net the ball but only one of such opportunities was properly utilised. Deiber Caicedo who came on in the second half had the best chance for the Colombians, but his shot missed the goal post by few inches with only Danladi to beat,
In the end, Ibrahim’s solitary goal left Ghana on the winning side, with all the three points to go home with!
The FIFA U-17 World Cup formally known as the FIFA U-16 World Championship, is the world championship of association football for male players under the age of 17 organized by Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) every two years.

The FIFA U-17 World Cup India 2017 saw Ghana’s Black Starlets placed in Group A along with hosts India, Colombia and United States of America. The Black Starlets qualified for the 2017 tournament, after easing their way into the CAF U-17 African Cup of Nations semi-finals. This was after they trashed Gabon 5-0 in their second group game at the 2017 Africa U-17 Championship on Wednesday, 17th May 2017.
The team therefore succeeded in making it to the Junior World Cup after 10 years of missing out, as the Starlets played their last FIFA U-17 in 2007 and won the trophy last in 1995.
Having won their first group match against Colombia today, the Black Starlets are full of high hopes of also coming out victorious in their next matches against USA and India on October 9 and 12 respectively.
