Led by the national president of the Guild, Samuel Fiscian, the delegation commended Mrs. Esua-Mensah on her new appointment, and discussed areas of mutual benefits.
“Let you and your team know that we are ready to work with Media General” Mr. Fiscian assured, adding, “We need to work together to ensure that our common aspirations are met”.
Mrs. Esua-Mensah in her response said as a leading media company, entertainment forms part of what Media General subsidiaries do and assured the Guild of the company’s commitment to promoting local contents.
“We as a Ghanaian company want to also make sure that we can showcase our Ghanaian skills when it comes to our entertainment industry. One of the things we’ve set ourselves to do is to ensure that we bring in a lot of local contents,” she said.
The Group CEO said though there are a lot of foreign contents, which she admitted Ghanaians enjoy, “it’s about time we showcase our own… It is up to us to also get them [Ghanaians] the standards that they require”.
Mrs. Esua-Mensah observed Ghana has the talent and with the right storylines and quality local production, the country will be on the world map in the entertainment industry
“If the actors are up to the task and also up their game, they will definitely be getting jobs from the things that we do,” she assured members of the Guild. She said one thing that the flagship of the MG Group, TV3 has done very well over the last two decades is to create stars who have excelled, stating “There are a lot of stars whose careers started from TV3 and gave them the launchpad to really fly.
“So we can assure you that that our mandate still stays. We have to do Ghana; we have to portray Ghana but we have to show that Ghana can do it with the right quality and we’re willing to work with the actors to do that,” she added.
She described the meeting as a good beginning, and would be looking forward to more of such meetings to discuss further areas of mutual interest and cooperation between the Media General and the Guild.
She also commended the leadership of the Actors Guild on their ongoing restructuring exercise aimed at making the Guild more attractive to actors and to also lift it to a standard that will make Ghanaians proud.
