A total of about 60 people are said to have been injured after a gas explosion at a company in Sekondi-Takoradi Tuesday morning.
Ghumco, a utensils manufacturing company was said to be receiving liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) from a tanker when the explosion occurred.
The tanker split into two, flipped over and landed in a wetland close by.
According to Graphic Online’s Takoradi reporters, Akwasi Ampratwum Mensah and Koblah Dotsey Aklorbortu, fire from the explosion destroyed items at the Chinese-owned Ghumco Company and extended to the nearby OLAM Ghana warehouse, completely destroying everything on site including; rice, oil and flour.
The first five firemen early responders were caught up in the blaze and have been sent to the Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital for treatment.
The Effia Nkwanta Hospital has been inundated with injured person.
Vehicular traffic on the main Sekondi-Takoradi highway has been diverted to the Effiakuma and Effia road.
Firemen are still on the ground battling the blaze.
A number of other people said to have sustained burns have also been sent to the same hospital.
