The heads of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) and the Ghana Police Service have congratulated Operation Vanguard for a good work done in the fight against illegal miners so far.
In an interaction with personnel at the Ashanti and Eastern Regional Forward Operating Bases (FOBs) on Friday, the Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS), Lieutenant General Obed Boamah Akwa, and the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), David Asante-Apeatu, lauded them for their efforts so far.
Lt Gen Akwa said he was pleased to see the task force in high morale and willing to do more for mother Ghana in the quest to stop activities of illegal miners.
He added that the achievement of the task force so far is remarkable in spite of the challenges.
The CDS advised troops to focus on the job and be mindful of their safety.
The CDS also disclosed that more naval personnel, engineers from the Ghana Army and marine police would join the task force to help flush out all illegal miners operating on water bodies.
On his part, the IGP added that he is very happy to see the success gained so far by the task force.
“You have every right to celebrate this achievement.”
He was also happy with the cooperation between the Ghana Armed Forces and the Ghana Police Service and hoped other countries would emulate same.
At Afosu in the Eastern Region, the Chief of Abirem and Acting Gyasehene of the Kotiku Traditional Area, Obrempong Akwesi Amo Kyeretwie, was grateful to the CDS and IGP for the good work of the taskforce.
“Our rivers are clean now and we appreciate your efforts,” he said.
In his remarks, the Taskforce Commander thanked the CDS and the IGP for their support, encouragement and strategic directions, which have accounted for the success, he said.
The entourage of the CDS and IGP included Brg Gen Nick Kporku, Director General Joints Operations at the General Headquarters, COP Christian Yohonu , who is in charge of Special Duties at the Police Headquarters and Capt (GN) Godwin Livinus Bessing, Director Naval Operation.
