Some enraged residents of Somanya in the Eastern Region have attacked the regional office of the Electricity Company of Ghana over what they described as outrageous bills.
The people who were incensed by the unexplained astronomical increment in electricity bills vandalised property at the ECG offices on Friday morning.
What broke the back of the camel which led to the vandalism was when the utility provider embarked on a mass disconnection exercise in the area.
Residents that used to pay some 300 cedis a month, are now being billed over 2,500 in a month, which most of them have not been able to pay leading to huge debts owed to the power distributor.
