A man has accused the former sub-metro chairman of Tema East, Nii Ibrahim Adjeitey, of assaulting him.
According to the man, Alexander Amegbenyo, who is a Controller and Accountant General staff assigned to assist Tema Metropolitan Assembly (TMA) on finance, the incident happened on June 5, 2017.
The incident happened because of a disagreement over the payment of allowances which according to Alexander had not been approved hence he could not pay to the former assembly member.
“On the 5th of June, I was assaulted by a sub-metro chairman in my office at Tema East of TMA. Just because of not effecting the payment of an allowance which was not approved. My left eye is damaged, I was treated yesterday,” he said in an interview with YEN.com.gh.
According to Amegbenyo, he has filed a report with the Tema New Town police and spent about 400 cedis at the Tema General Hospital on medical care alone.
The allowance which amounts to 1,500 cedis was for the months of January and February 2017.
Amegbenyo alleges that this is not the first time Adjeitey has attacked him over the same issue. He recalls that the “first assault was on October 5, 2016, he was highly furious shouting and ordered Metro guards to move my office desk and seat to my subordinate’s cashier’s office after scattering all books, files etc and threatening to beat me.”
He told YEN that the first and second incidents have been reported to his boss, the metro finance officer but very little has been done about the situation.
Alexander further lamented the lack of attention given to his case by the appropriate authorities so far to bring the chairman to book.
YEN.com.gh reached out to the former sub-metro chairman of Tema East, Nii Ibrahim Adjeitey but he was unavailable for comment on the matter at the time of publication.
