President Akufo-Addo has officially commissioned the Sankofa Gye Nyame field for the commencement of the commercial exploration of oil.
The Sankofa Gye Nyame oil field is the third after the Jubilee and TEN oilfields all in the Western region.
The production was preceded by a commemorative turning of the valve on the FPSO John Agyekum Kufuor Vessel earlier today.
Over all, the Sankofa Gye Nyame field which is being commissioned two months ahead of time is expected to produce 30,000 barrels of oil per day and 180 million cubic feet of gas.
The Sankofa project is expected to deliver an additional 30,000 barrels per day of oil and 180 million cubic feet (5.07 million cubic metres) per day of gas to Ghana.
Gas from the project is expected to help generate 1,100 MW of additional electricity.
