First Lady Rebecca Akufo-Addo had the privilege of chairing the Steering Committee Meeting of the Organisation of African First Ladies Against HIV/AIDS (OAFLA) on behalf of the First Lady of Malawi, Dr Gertrude Mutharika.
Mrs Mutharika was unable to make the trip to Ethiopia, where the meeting is being held.
It is the maiden OAFLA meeting for Mrs Akufo-Addo, who was elected as West Africa’s representative on the Steering Committee.
The Meeting was held at the 19th General Assembly of OAFLA on the sidelines of the 29th AU Summit ongoing in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
Themed ‘Building on 15 years of engagement to harness the demographic dividend (DD) of Africa through promoting the needs of adolescents and their access to youth-friendly health services’, the Meeting had in attendance wives of several African leaders.
The Organisation is currently headed by First Lady of Ethiopia Roman Tesfaye, who will be assisted by Burkina Faso’s Adjoavi Sika Kabore.
The Organisation is expected to be renamed Organisation of African First Ladies for Development of Africa.
