A 36-year-old farmer of Akyem Bunso, a farming village near Akyem Achiase in the Birim South District in the Eastern Region, is in police grips for butchering his uncle last Friday.
Kwasi Aboagye, the suspect, has since been placed in police custody at Achiase to assist in investigations into the murder, while the body of the deceased, Yaw Mensah, 57, has been deposited at the morgue of the Oda Government Hospital.
Quarrel
Briefing the Daily Graphic at Achiase over the weekend, the Achiase District Police Commander, ASP Ernest Dzokuno, said around 7:15 p.m. last Friday, Mensah quarrelled with Aboagye’s elder brother in their family house at Bunso.
He said Aboagye intervened and urged his uncle to stop the quarrel, but Mensah rather became incensed and had hot exchanges with Aboagye.
Machete wounds
According to ASP Dzokuno, in the course of the exchanges, both men pulled machetes, with Mensah being the first to inflict wounds on Aboagye’s head and face.
He said Aboagye retaliated by butchering Mensah.
The District Police Commander said Aboagye, who sensed danger that he would be arrested by the police, boarded a bus with the aim of escaping, but the driver sent him to the Achiase Police Station and handed him over to the police.
He said because Aboagye had sustained multiple injuries, the police first sent him to the Achiase Health Centre for treatment, after which he was placed in custody to assist in investigations.
