The family of Maxwell Adam Mahama is very excited about the posthumous rank of Major conferred on him by the Commander-in-Chief of the Ghana Armed Forces, a spokesperson has revealed.
A Captain until his death on Monday, May 29, army officer Maxwell Mahama was promoted to Major by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
A trust fund with seed money of GH¢500,000 was announced by government on Monday, June 5.
Speaking a day after the announcement, Family Spokesperson Zakaria Sakara Ahmed said the family, especially the late soldier’s father, is very happy with the promotion.
Mr Ahmed said the deceased’s father, Chubby Adam Mahama, retired in the military as an army captain and desired his son to retire higher than him.
“Yesterday, he was very elated that [his son] was posthumously promoted to the rank of Major,” the spokesperson said on TV3’s Midday Live on Tuesday, June 6.
“It will go a long way to console us [and] to console his wife.”
He revealed that plans are underway to perform the funeral of the late Mahama according to Gonja and Sissala customs.
So far, about 44 persons have been picked up by the police in efforts to find the perpetrators of the lynching at Denkyira-Obuasi in the Central Region.
The family says the assurance given by President Akufo-Addo on Monday to have the killers brought to book is a statement it holds so dear.
He said the investigators must work towards fulfilling the president’s assurance.
If they fail to satisfy the family, Mr Ahmed said, President Akufo-Addo will be petitioned.
