Jane Ayiayem -In what seems like a De Ja Vu, a one time footballer has joined the Ghana police officer, just as a one time policeman joined the Ghana national team -the Black Stars.
Former Ghana Under-17 striker Jane Ayiayem has graduated from the Pwalugu training School and is now a police officer in the Ghana Police Service. The 22-year-old represented Ghana at the 2012 Fifa Under-17 World Cup in Azerbaijan where the Africans clinched a historic bronze medal.
Ayaiyem also played for the Black princesses. The new police officer scored four goals for the side during the tournament in Azerbaijan five years ago.
After eight months in the Upper East Region, the 22-year-old makes her way into the Police service, choosing another field to continue serving her country.
Interestingly, Miss Ayiayem is not the only female footballer to join the Police. Jane has joined the likes of Black Queens goalkeepers Nana Ama Asantewaa and Fafali Dumehasi, Deborah Afriyie, Alberta Asante and Mary Entoa who all play for the various National teams and are in the Police Service. Jane was also instrumental for the Police Ladies as they won the maiden edition of the Sanford Women FA Cup.
This interesting story surely has a familiar ring. Remember the awe-inspiring story of how a policeman joined Ghana’s national team? This same story comes to mind when narrating the recent move to the Ghana Police Service by U-17’s Jane.
Samuel Sarfo who was a Constable at the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Police made his debut in Ghana’s 2-1 defeat to the USA in a friendly match on July 1st, 2017. Sarfo was a policeman playing amateur football and regularly stationed to protect members of the Black Stars.
Sarfo who played for Liberty Professionals was one of the policemen deployed to provide security for the Black Stars during the AFCON qualifier against Rwanda in 2016. Following his remarkable performances as well as his duties for the national team, the GFA paid him a courtesy visit and hailed his dedication to the Ghana Premier League.
He was later called up to join the Black Stars following withdrawals of internationals Alfred Nelson and Daniel Nii Adjei.
