Spio Garbrah’s Forward Ever Agenda- Lots of surprising and intriguing packages will surely unfold in Ghana’s 2020 electioneering which is two years away.
It may seem too early for the ordinary Ghanaian or the electorates, but it is definitely not so early for potential political aspirants who have started now to make straight paths for their aspirations.
Former Trade Minister under the erstwhile John Mahama administration Ekwow Spio-Garbrah has launched the ‘Forward Agenda’ to help him lead the National Democratic Congress (NDC) party ahead of the 2020 elections.
This may not come as news for those already aware of Spio-Garbrah’s declared interest in the NDC presidential election come next general election. This is also the second time the former Communications Minister is making an attempt to lead the NDC.
While addressing the media on Wednesday, the former Trade Minister said the Forward Agenda will carry the message of sacrifice and commitment to help in the development of Ghana.
The Forward Agenda is Spio-Gabrah’s grand plan to win the NDC leadership and subsequently the Presidential race in the next elections.
The Agenda, he said, “is not one that can be led by just anybody, it is not just a matter of your talents, it is not a matter of the nature of your educational attainments or your financial capacity, it is the motivation in your spirit which is very difficult to measure.”

Spio-Garbrah contested the NDC flag bearer position for the 2004 election and lost to late President John Evans Atta Mills.
He also picked the form for the NDC flag bearer position for the 2008 election but withdrew his candidature, leaving the race between the late President and former First Lady, Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings.
Who Will Be His Contenders?
We cannot ascertain whom Garbrah’s exact contenders for the elections are.
However, some sources, as well as recent events, have tipped former President John Dramani Mahama, former Chief Executive Officer of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), Mr Sylvester Mensah and Member of Parliament for Nadowli-Kaleo Alban Bagbin, to be his potential contenders.
These aforementioned names are expected to go for the position when it is declared open.
Spio Garbrah initially declared his interest to contest in the elections in November 2017, in an interview with Starr Chat host Bola Ray. He stated his intentions adding that he has all the qualities necessary for an NDC presidential candidate.
