Banku’s defeat -Ghanaian boxer Braimah Kamoko, popularly known as Bukom Banku, woefully lost out on the night of Saturday, October 21, to former amateur boxing team captain, Samir Bastie.
No, it is not just about the defeat, the excessive bragging which came before the defeat has made rounds in the media on different platforms.
Bukom Banku suffered a humiliating defeat to Bastie Samir in the cruiserweight non-title bout held at the Bukom Boxing Arena in Accra on Saturday night.
Tagged ‘Make or Break,’ the bout ended up as a night of awe for some and that of disappointment for others as respective fan tribes of the duo gathered at the Boxing arena to witness the fight.
It was the third round and Banku who bragged about beating his opponent in the sixth round was brought to his knees after Bastie served him with a heavy blow which shattered his stamina.
Banku subsequently struggled to complete the subsequent rounds as Bastie’s jabs proved to have what it takes to draw the remaining energy out of him.
The 37-year-old was completely defeated in the 7th Round after another punch landed him on the floor, leaving the referee, Roger Banner with no option but to end the bout.

Thousands of boxing enthusiasts, including former World boxing champion, Azuman Nelson, were present to witness the historic bout.
Bukom’s defeat became a subject of discussion on many platforms. It can be recalled that prior to the fight, Banku said that Ghanaians can call him ‘foolish’ if he failed to knock out 31-year-old Samir.
He had promised to beat his opponent into a coma before the end of the fight. Well, Banku lost woefully and many Ghanaians are waiting to hear from him.
The defeated boxer has been scheduled on October 23, to speak abput his on different platforms. He is expected to open up on what could have led to his losing the bragging rights.
Unlike many who have mocked the boxer for losing, former President Mahama has consoled his friend Banku since his defeat.
In a reaction on Facebook on Sunday evening, President Mahama praised the atmosphere at the boxing arena where the bout was held. “The patronage, entertainment, and competitive spirit fulfill the purpose for which the facility was built,” he said.
While the former president commended Samir for winning, he had kind words for the defeated Banku.
Describing Banku as his “friend and brother”, Mahama said he (Banku) and Samir were winners on the night. Mahama wished the boxer who suffered his first ever defeat at the hand of the unheralded Samir better luck in the future.
Some may be sad over Banku’s defeat but boxer Michael Ayittey, popularly known as Ayittey Powers is definitely not among that section of sympathetic Ghanaians at the moment.
The boxer has rather mocked Bukom Banku for losing the Make or Break bout after bragging initially. While he dwelt in his defeat chants, Powers said he was certain Banku would lose against Samir.
Ayitey Powers bemoaned that high level of arrogance which Banku exudes, having won a majority of his fights. He said that because Bukom Banku believes he can beat everybody in the ring, he sometimes behaves like a king. Powers said that in boxing, the boxer must be respectful to everybody.
