The Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO) is investigating three officials of the Electoral Commission over Gh¢480,000 allegedly missing from the Commission’s Endowment Fund.
The officials under investigation are the Deputy Commissioner, Georgina Opoku Amankwaah, Chief Accountant Kwaku OwusuAgyei-Larbi and Finance Officer, Joseph Kwaku Asamoah.
They have been ordered to proceed on leave over the case, the Head of Public Affairs at the EC, Eric Kofi Dzakpasu, has confirmed to Starr News.
EOCO has informed the EC chairperson Charlotte Osei in a letter dated July 4, 2017 about the investigations.
“The suspects are assisting in investigations,” the acting Executive Director of EOCO, ACP KK Amoah (Rtd) said in the letter.
Reports say the money was withdrawn from the Endowment Fund to transact official business between 2012 and 2013, but was never reimbursed upon receipt of the Commission’s budgetary allocation.
