There was barely a mention of Emmannuel Boateng in the Ghanaian media when he signed for La Liga side Levante last August.
Now his name is all over.
Boateng’s first La Liga goal came against Real Madrid on Saturday and as he himself admits the reaction back home has been huge.
“I am feeling very good because I am receiving a lot of calls and the messages from Ghana and it has really made me happy and I am proud of myself,” Boateng told Levante’s official media outlet.
“I thank God for how far he has brought me because it is not easy to score against a big team like Real Madrid so I am really happy.”
It has taken a goal against the record European champions for Boateng to become visible in the Ghana media but he has been grinding away in Europe for a while.
A product of the Charity Stars FC in Ghana, Boateng joined Rio Ave in Portugal in 2014 before switching to Moreirense a year later.
That same year, he played and scored for Ghana at the 2015 World U-20 championship in New Zealand.
He admits settling into La Liga has been difficult but hopes the goal against Madrid opens things up a lot more.
“When I came I had some difficulties because it is really difficult to adapt in La Liga because it is one of the biggest leagues in the world but the coach talked to me a lot and helped me,” he said.
“Now I think I am used to how they play so I am really happy and hopefully I will get a lot more chances to play more here.”
