Edward Mahama’s Ambassadorial role has since been attracting series of criticisms to him. Latest on the list of the PNC leader’s critics is Hassan Ayarga, leader of the All People’s Congress (APC).
Speaking in an interview on Okay Fm on Friday, Ayariga described Edward Maham’s Ambassador post as an “errand boy job”. According to him, the ruling party, NPP created the all-purpose appointment just to compensate the PNC leader for supporting them during the last elections.
Continuing, Hassan Ayariga extended his criticisms to Dr. Mahama’s clinic, pointing out that the private facility is in deplorable conditions health-wise. According to Ayariga, despite the fact that Dr. Mahama is one of the most prominent surgeons in the country, his medical facility, Superior Medical Centre in Accra, harbours infections and exudes bad smell.
“My younger brother’s wife went to deliver at Dr. Mahama’s clinic some four years ago and I tell you, we had to send plenty ‘Kufuor gallons’ of water and Camel [antiseptic] there to bath her and disinfect this woman before bringing her home,” he stressed.
“The hospital smells…; there is no water; the environment there is terrible. Anyone who goes there for treatment returns with tetanus,” he added.
2016 Flagbearer of the Peoples National Convention (PNC), Dr. Edward Nasigri Mahama was recently appointed an Ambassador-at-large by President Nana Akufo-Addo. He was among the 22 persons appointed as ambassadors to represent Ghana in different countries, on Monday, July 10, 2017.
Edward Mahama’s position as an Ambassador-at-large means he was not assigned to a specific country, but would be visiting different countries to do government business at the behest of the President.
Dr Edward’s appointment however, triggered public reactions, especially with regard to his job prescription, as well as the fact that he is from a different party.
Mahama’s Party particularly frowned at his failure to consult the party leadership before deciding to accept the ambassadorial role; indicating that they will sanction him for the move.
Edward Mahama has however justified his action, making it clear that his appointment is a call to serve Ghana and not any particular political party.
