The Minister for Education, Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh has the potentials to transform Ghana’s education sector, Mrs. Theodosia Jackson, Principal of the Jackson College of Education (JCE), has stated.
She said the performance of the minister four months into the new administration was promising and must be commended.
Her comments follow the Minister’s recent engagement with stakeholders including Directors of Education, Heads of Senior High Schools, as well as Matrons, Accountants and Bursars of the various SHS across the country in Kumasi.
The meeting provided a platform to discuss pertinent issues regarding how to improve on quality of education; chief among them was the implementation of the free Senior High School education.
According to the principal, her forty-two years of teaching life and a decade after retirement, has never saw this innovative initiative by any Minister for Education.
Every good leader, she added, leads by carving out his visions clearly, preparing unambiguously defined blueprints or road map that would finally produce a positive results.
Dr Opoku- Prempeh, in the view of Mrs Jackson, epitomises a good leader.
For, bringing together, all stakeholders in the education sector across the nation, laying bare to them, the challenges in the education sector and also offering opportunity for all to share their views on the state of education and proffering best possible ways of remedying the challenging conditions of our educational system, is highly commendable.
This and many other initiatives by the Minister, according to Mrs. Jackson was a mark of a good leader poised for results.
She said Dr. Prempeh had demonstrated his commitment to raise standard of education in the country since assuming office as Minister.
She urged him not to be complacent but work extra hard to ensure the successful implementation of the numerous laudable policies of the government.
Mrs. Jackson called on all stakeholders in education to rally behind the Minister to ensure accelerated transformation of the sector.
