Founder and Chairman of Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG), Mr. Kofi Percival Akpaloo, has stated that education is the key to Ghana’s individual and collective economic growth and prosperity.
According to him, the country’s ability to compete in the global economy depends largely on the effective implementation of educational policies.
Sparking in an interview with journalists in Accra yesterday, Mr. Akpaloo stressed that it was the path to good jobs and higher earning power for Ghanaians.
“It is necessary for our young democracy to work. It fosters the cross-border, cross-cultural collaboration required to solve the most challenging problems of our time,” he noted.
He stressed that under the LPG government, education powered by technology will become an urgent priority driven by two clear goals.
Under LPG government, according to him, it will raise the proportion of college graduates from where it now stands (around 11 per cent) so that 60 per cent of our population holds a three-year or four-year degree by 2024.
“We will close the achievement gap so that all students graduate from senior high school ready to succeed in college and careers,” he added.
These are aggressive goals and achieving them is a sizable challenge. Add to the challenge of government revenues, and it is clear we need cost-effective and cost-saving strategies that improve learning outcomes and graduation rates for millions of Ghanaians.
Specifically, he stressed the need for Ghanaians to embrace innovation, prompt implementation, regular evaluation and continuous improvement.
According to Mr. Akpaloo, the programmes and projects that work must be brought to scale so every school has the opportunity to take advantage of their success.
“Our regulations, policies, actions, and investments must be strategic and coherent,” he stated.
