The Ho Municipal Education Directorate wishes candidates of this year’s Basic Education Certificate Examination the best of luck in their exams with a call for them to improve on previous performances in the municipality, and avoid all forms of malpractices.
Final year students of the various Junior High Schools in the country are set to write their Basic Education Certificate Examinations effective today [Monday].
The five-day examination conducted by the West African Examination Council (WAEC), gives basic school students their very first experience of external assessment, and determines the chances for higher academic pursuits.
The Ho Municipality is presenting 2,587 candidates drawn from 90 basic schools in the area. Out the total number, 1330 are girls with the remaining being boys.
In a press release signed by the Municipal Director of Education, Mr John Kodzo Teku, the candidates have been asked to see the examination as a significant task to make an impact in their continuing pursuit for academic excellence.
“As you sit for the examinations, be reminded that you are on the verge of making history for yourselves, your parents and families, your individual schools, as well as Ghana as a whole. You cannot afford to fail! We trust that you will put in all your best efforts and make all the sacrifices necessary to excel” it stated.
The statement further challenged the candidates to work hard towards improving previous results from the municipality and consciously avoid all forms of examination malpractices.
“We urge you to resolve individually and collectively to improve the previous examination results in the municipality. We also advise you to avoid any form of examination malpractice which has the tendency to get your papers cancelled” it added.
Meanwhile, some invigilators in the region are threatening not to supervise the examinations because the Ghana Education Service has failed to pay them their two years outstanding allowances.
