The Ghana Cricket Association’s development programmes continued across the country.
After a successful CAP one with Volta in late May, the GCA held same module of Community Cricket for 15 participants of the Eastern Regional Cricket Association at the Akwamuman Senior High School.
The 2-day programme ended on Tuesday, June 13, 2017 and had 2 facilitators.
Mr. Eugene King, who is the Development Officer from the GCA and Secretary of the Eastern Regional Cricket Association, took participants through the module that will give them knowledge and ideas about how to effectively run their own community clubs.
Speaking on ‘Sports Dash’ programme on TOSH 103.9 FM, Secretary of the regional Association, Fred Anim Lartey, stated that the programme has been very beneficial to participants as they already have 2 community clubs running.
“By the Grace of God we started on Monday and ended on Tuesday on a CAP course concerning Community Cricket. We had 15 participants, with myself and Eugene King as the facilitators.”
He explained that “Looking at the way the game was developing in Eastern Region, especially Akosombo, they were so happy to be introduced to such a course because it is going to help them build formidable clubs for the communities and see how they can develop the interest in students and community members to play cricket.”
“The amazing thing is, we have already started with our community clubs. We have two clubs currently, one in Akosombo main town and another in Tuska, a suburb of Akosombo. ”
The CAP course, which has four modules for every year, will see the rest (effective meeting, governance and financial management) treated in all 8 regional ssociations before the year ends.”
The Ghana Cricket Association as mandated by the International Cricket Council is still spreading the game of cricket in Ghana effectively. There are also courses for Umpires and Scorers which will hit some parts of the country soon.
